Today is a very humbling day for me, it’s the nine year anniversary of my first day at Well Women Centre and my first day as CEO. I had a choice about where to come to work. I came here because I believed in the ethos of the charity. I saw then how clearly we empower women and ultimately make the world a better place. I knew there was no better charity to join if I wanted to make a difference. This is the very same inspiration that continues to drive me today.
It is an incredible honour for me to lead this great charity. I’ve been fortunate to work closely with Lisa Kaye in my different roles at WWC, and as I step in as Acting CEO she has given me the best possible start, both professionally and personally.
The charity and myself are fortunate to have Lisa staying on in her new role as Head of Business Development focused on funding and strategic partnerships. I’m also looking forward to continue to work closely with Kim Meadmore our Chair of Trustees as we implement the charity’s new strategic plan for the next 5 years. This plan will mobilise and facilitate the work we need to do to ensure we continue to provide a service that fulfils the needs of the women of the Wakefield District, empowering them to make the changes they wish to make in their own and their family’s lives.
The charity has seen great success and change over the last thirty eight years, it has been built on the commitment, talent, ambition and perseverance of great women. I want to acknowledge and say thanks to every staff member and volunteer, both past and present for their hard work and dedication to improving women’s lives, and as the new Acting CEO, I can’t ask for a better foundation.
Finally, I truly believe that each of us must find meaning in our work. The best work happens when you know that it’s not just work, but something that will improve other people’s lives. This is the opportunity that drives each of us at this wonderful and much needed charity.
