WWC Closure – A message from our staff

It is with a heavy heart we have to announce the closure of Well Women centre due to financial issues. As of now we will no longer be operating.

We have loved being able to support the women of Wakefield for the last 40 years. Supporting and empowering women is still incredibly important to all staff and we are devastated that our centre has to close under these circumstances.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported the centre over the past 40 years in any capacity. We are so grateful to have had this opportunity for as long as we have.

We would like to thank our clients for all the hard work they have done. It has been a privilege working with you all and seeing your journey.

Each staff member – counsellor, caseworker, administrator, volunteer – has loved working with the Centre. It has been an incredibly special place to work and we will treasure the experiences we have had here.

We have been advised that other services will contact any clients they can support.

Well Women Centre to Step Up the Dance Moves for Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Well Women Centre is delighted to announce our participation in the upcoming sponsored Danceathon on Saturday 17 January 2026 in Leeds. This fun, high-energy event offers our team—and our supporters—a vibrant opportunity to raise vital funds and awareness for women’s mental health support in the Wakefield district.

As a charity rooted in the belief that every woman deserves a safe, women-only space to access emotional, practical and holistic support, we welcome this partnership wholeheartedly. For over 40 years we have been helping women aged 16 and above through counselling, casework, groups and courses, striving to reduce health inequality and break down barriers to wellbeing.

We are profoundly grateful to Sarah Hex for organising the Danceathon and to every individual, group and sponsor who is backing this event. The funds raised will help us expand our services, reach more women and continue offering the trauma-informed support so many so desperately need. Together, we hope to make a difference.

We’d like to invite the public, local businesses and community groups to get involved—to sponsor our dance team, join in the event, or support it in whatever way they can. The more we raise, the more deeply we can impact the lives of women in Wakefield—increasing access to counselling, emotional and practical support in a trauma-informed, welcoming and safe space.

We look forward to stepping onto the dance floor on 17 January, bringing energy, hope and enthusiasm, all in service of a cause close to our hearts. Thank you to all who are joining us in this journey of movement and meaning.

We Need Your Feedback

We are asking clients and professionals for their feedback on the service we provide.

Client Survey

Are you a woman who has used our services, is currently receiving support from us, or might want to in the future?

We’re asking all local women to take just 1 minute to complete a short survey. Your answers will help us show funders how much our services are needed and valued — and this is crucial for us to secure funding so we can continue to deliver and improve the support we offer to women across our community.

Every response really counts and will help us shape our work and make sure women’s voices are at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you so much for your time and support — together we can make a real difference

Professional survey

We’re reaching out to our professional partners and colleagues for your support.

As you know, Well Women Centre provides specialist holistic support to women across our community, many of whom face complex issues. To help us evidence the need for continued funding, we’re asking for to complete a very short survey (less than 1 minute)

These insights will directly support our funding applications and help us protect and strengthen our services for local women.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support
